Brazil Vs Colombia, Tomorrow (4am),
My Prediction: Brazil... 1 Colombia.. 3
Why are all these countries who participated at the 2014 World Cup playing against each other as if to prove something to themselves? Earlier this week, Argentina beat Germany 4-2 in an international friendly; and were happy about it; but guess what? Germany are still the world champions. On Thursday, France beat Spain while Netherlands lost to Italy. Even England won a game! And with the way things are going, Brazil are about to lose to Colombia. That would be nice if only to prove to the Samba Boys that they really weren’t all that good at the tournament; but right now the results mean little.
That said; at least they, unlike Kenya, are playing international friendlies on an official Fifa week. Brazil have a new man at the helm after Luis Felipe Scolari bowed out after they failed to win the World Cup at home. Dunga is back in charge and has hopefully cleaned up and got rid of old players like Fred. I hope he has also scouted a little and found strikers who can score and defenders who can defend. I have always been an admirer of Hulk but I can’t believe that in a country beaming with football talent like Brazil, they can’t find a real sharp shooter! Another Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. Colombia lost 2-1 to Brazil in the quarter finals in July but their team is looking sharp right now. James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, Carlos Sanchez Moreno to name a few. Unfortunately their Arsenal keeper David Ospina is injured but I’m sure they have cover. Dunga is about to be baptized with fire given the pace of the Colombia attack.
Cote D’Ivoire Vs Sierra Leone, Today 8pm,
My Prediction: Elephants.. 2 Sierra Leone... 1
The group stages of the AFCON 2015 qualifiers kick off with World Cup 2014 participants Ivory Coast playing minnows Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone manager Johnny McKinstry believe it or not says his side has a 50-50 chance of overcoming the Elephants in their land. Sierra Leone got passed Swaziland and Seychelles to be here but they need to realise that the contest starts here. These aren’t preliminaries, these are the big boys now. However, Ivory Coast have seen superstars Didier Drogba, Kolo Toure and Didier Zokora hang up their boots over the last couple of weeks; but it was time. They need to recruit young fresh stars who are hungry to go a step further with the Ivory Coast. Led by Yaya Toure, I believe the Elephants won’t struggle too much to get passed Sierra Leone.
Nigeria Vs Congo, Today 7pm
My Prediction: The Super Eagles 2-1 The Red Devils
The defending champions open their AFCON group stage qualifiers against Congo Brazaville; who are lucky to find themselves here after Rwanda were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player during the preliminaries. And while on paper it would look like an easy task for Stephen Keshi’s men, Congo are going through a revival of sorts, as reported on mtnfootball.com. They have a striker called Kader Bidimbou who is scoring goals freely for his club AC Leopards. The Leopards have just gone through to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederations Cup which they won two years ago. Last weekend, their U20 team eliminated defending champions Egypt to qualify for the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal. Congo, also known as The Red Devils are under the stewardship of Claude Le Roy, who is experienced in African football. Keshi is known for inspiring young home-based players to perform for him but he’ll need to be on guard today and expect a tough content. I think Nigeria will win this one but had better watch out during the return leg.
