South C MCA Abass Khalif has unveiled a Sh1.5 million sponsorship package for 54 football clubs drawn from Lang’ata constituency ahead of the upcoming FKF league season.

Khalif on Wednesday paid Sh1,483,500 in league fees for all the teams, promising further support in the form of uniforms and transport during match days.

“Our agenda is to promote sports in the constituency with the aim of identifying talent but also helping in the fight against drugs. Sports ensure the youth remain clean as they engage in the games,” Khalif said.

The MCA added that his support would not be limited to football.

“We will support youth in different fields of sport. We have started with football but this will be extended to cover other disciplines such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, and athletics,” he noted.

Among the beneficiaries is Strathmore FC, which plays in the Nationwide Division One league and received Sh50,000.

Seven Division Two teams each got Sh44,500, including Bomas of Kenya FC, Nkoroi FC, Diguna FC, RAVSA FC, Nairobi West Prison FC, and South C Rangers.

Eight Regional League sides each received Sh41,000, including KYSA Karengata FC, Karen Hospital FC, Amazon Tigers, Marron Young Stars, Prisons Queens, Achievers Queens, Kuwinda Queens, and RYSA FC.

Fourteen County League teams each pocketed Sh30,000, while 26 Sub-County League clubs each received Sh22,000.

FKF Lang’ata Sub-Branch chairman David Dinda lauded the MCA for the gesture, saying the money would go a long way in boosting the morale of the teams.

Although Khalif has not formally declared his interest in Lang’ata constituency, speculation is rife that he could challenge the incumbent MP, Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, in the 2027 elections. Both leaders are members of the ODM party.

Khalif, however, declined to be drawn into the political debate, saying his focus for now remains on supporting youth and promoting sports in the constituency.
