Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed
has said that Harambee Stars has so far received a total of Sh232 million in
allowances and bonuses.
According to Hussein, the amount has largely been paid to 27
players and the technical team, although some who are covered by the federation are
still waiting for their payment.
“Whatever the team gets is the effort of the federation; the
federation does everything in its power to make sure that we remunerate the
team well,” he said on Citizen TV.
“You’ve got the allowances of the players and the technical
team, 27 players, although the government pays for 24, and we cater for the
balance. I think there are about 4 or 5 players we still need to clear; the rest have been paid.”
The FKF president said Sh21 million in allowances from the federation
has already been disbursed, with additional bonuses provided by President
William Ruto for every win and draw.
“Allowances were paid in July when in camp and August up to
yesterday (August 23). If you look at the total amount so far, Sh21 million in
allowances from us and the balance from bonuses, you are looking at Sh232
million that has been given to the national team,” Hussein said.
The payments cover players and staff allowances during
recent training camps as well as performance-related rewards.
Hussein reiterated that the government, together with the
federation, has been committed to ensuring players and technical staff are well
remunerated.
His remarks come after the Kenyan male national team bowed
out of the African Nations Cup (CHAN) tournament following a defeat to
Madagascar.
There have also been concerns on social media over how the
prize money won by the team for reaching the quarter-finals will be shared.
Kenya earned Sh58.2 million prize money from CAF for
reaching the CHAN quarterfinals.
