Former Public Service, Human Capital Development CS Justin Muturi now says that he regrets supporting President William Ruto.

This comes a few months after he was fired from the Cabinet.

His remarks followed a confession that he will always respect retired President Uhuru Kenyatta as he was a firm but fair leader.

He described him as someone who listened, embraced divergent views and ruled without fear.

Muturi said that they remain friends to date.

“I will always respect former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He was firm but fair, a leader who listened, embraced differing views, and never ruled with fear. We’re still friends to this day, and I value that bond.

“But I deeply regret ever supporting William Ruto,” he wrote on X.

Under Uhuru’s tenure, Muturi served as Speaker of the National Assembly for 10 years.

He would then jump ship to work with Ruto (then Deputy President) in the run-up to the 2022 general elections.

Ruto won the election and appointed him Attorney General.

Muturi fell out with Ruto despite serving in his cabinet for about two years, first as Attorney General and later as Public Service CS.

They fell out after Muturi’s son was abducted during the heated Gen Z protests in the country.

Muturi would later demand action from the Cabinet to stop the abductions and extrajudicial killings, and went to the extent of missing cabinet meetings.

He claimed to have written to the President over the same.

The former CS claimed to have sought the intervention of the president to have his son released after the abduction.

He claimed to have overheard a call between the president and the National Intelligence DG, and after that, his son was released.

Since leaving government, Muturi is actively working with other opposition leaders, including former DP Rigathi Gachagua, former VP Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa, among others.
