A deepening fuel crunch is forcing a massive shift in how people move, driving a surge in non-motorised transport and public transit use.

Recent survey data reveal that a staggering 40 per cent of citizens have turned to walking or cycling as their primary alternative to cope with the ongoing shortage. This pivot toward active commuting highlights the immediate economic pressure on individual households, where running a personal vehicle has become increasingly unsustainable.

For those unable to trek or bike to their destinations, public transport has become the next best lifeline.

Thirty per cent of commuters report using public transport more frequently, putting a heavier reliance on shared transit systems to navigate the crisis.

Additionally, the squeeze on fuel supplies has prompted 39 per cent of respondents to slash non-essential travel altogether, fundamentally altering daily routines and suppressing discretionary movement across the country.

Beyond physical commuting, the crisis is reshaping workplace dynamics and energy consumption. Sixteen per cent of the population has transitioned to working remotely to bypass the petrol stations entirely, while an equal 16 per cent has adopted alternative energy sources.
