Kericho County will take centre stage on December 19, 2025, as the country rolls out the National Farmers' Awards and celebrations.

The flagship, aimed at honouring farmers and agribusiness actors whose work underpins the country’s food security, rural economies and agricultural transformation, is being hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with county governments.

It brings together farmers, agribusiness leaders, innovators, policymakers and development partners from across the country from 9am.

More than a ceremonial gathering, the national farmers awards have evolved into Kenya’s most authoritative platform for recognising agricultural excellence.

The initiative shines a national spotlight on individuals and enterprises propelling productivity, value addition, job creation and food security across the entire agricultural value chain.

This year’s edition marks a significant departure from tradition by deliberately recognising every link that moves agriculture from soil to shelf.

Awards will span eight key categories: individual farmers, seed growers, agro-dealers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), millers, transporters, including motorbike operators enabling last-mile delivery of inputs, manufacturers, and county value chains.

The expanded categories send a clear policy signal that Kenya’s agricultural transformation will be inclusive, market-driven and value-chain focused, rewarding not only primary producers but also traders, processors, logistics players and counties building competitive agricultural ecosystems.

Senior national and county leaders are expected to attend, led by Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Ronoh.

His participation underscores the government’s firm commitment to farmer-centred reforms, increased productivity, value addition, improved market access and deeper private sector participation.

“These awards affirm a simple truth- Kenya’s agricultural future will be built by farmers and the full value chain that supports them,” Ronoh said.

He added: “By recognising innovation, inclusion and impact, from seed growers and producers to processors and transporters, we are strengthening productivity, value addition and incomes while keeping the farmer firmly at the centre of our national development agenda.”

County governments, as frontline implementers of agricultural transformation, will showcase successful grassroots models, innovative partnerships and value chain interventions delivering tangible gains for farmers at the local level.

Held under the theme “Seeds of Excellence: Recognising Innovation, Inclusion and Impact in Kenyan Agriculture and the Livestock Sector,” the 2025 awards aim to inspire a new generation of farmers and agripreneurs, promote climate-smart practices and elevate agribusiness competitiveness at both county and national levels.

According to the Ministry, the Awards have become a powerful convening platform for amplifying success stories, strengthening national-county collaboration and aligning public and private sector efforts toward food security, income growth and economic transformation.
