The Kisii University has ordered students who are parents to stop bringing along their children to lecture halls.

The University says in a memo to all students that some parent-students have been tagging their children to campus including classrooms, an issue which has raised safety concerns.

Consequently, the University administration has directed security officers to lock out any student-parents coming to college in the company of their children unless the children are seeking medical services at the University’s clinic.

“It’s evident that student- parents are carrying their children all over within the University, including classrooms. It’s of great concern because of the safety, health and general well being of such children as well as the kind of disruptions that is usually caused in classroom setups,” Dean of Students Dr. Gladys Osoro said.

The memo dated Wednesday December 3, 2025 adds: “While we understand that childcare arrangements can sometimes be challenging, its important for students to be fully focused during class time.”

The Dean has requested parents to stop carrying the children to campus for the benefit of all students and to maintain productive learning.

“Please do not bring children with you to class,'' she reiterated.

The University's memo stated that a classroom is a professional learning space where it’s not appropriate to have children present.

“By copy of this memo, the security office is requested to ensure that no student gets into the University premises with a child during the week unless such a child requires medical attention at the University medical department,” the memo stated.
