Detectives have launched investigations after the bodies of two women were found floating in the Kapingazi River, Embu County.
Police said the bodies, discovered on Wednesday, August 13, in the Matakari area, were already decomposed.
One was missing the right foot. Witnesses and officers noted the state of decomposition suggested the women had been in the water for more than four days.
The motive of the killings remains unknown, but police believe the bodies may have been dumped in the river after being murdered elsewhere.
The remains were taken to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy. Locals have demanded swift justice and action against those behind the killings.
In a separate incident in Kithyoko, Masinga, Machakos County, a 34-year-old woman was found dead in her home in what police suspect to be a love triangle-related murder.
The victim, identified as Pauline Mukeli Nzioka, was discovered after her locked house raised suspicion.
Police and locals broke in and found her body submerged in a water tank inside the house. Blood stains were visible on the floor, and her pair of slippers lay apart.
Investigators recovered a hammer and an iron sheet cutter, both stained with blood, in the bedroom. Police said the victim had multiple head injuries.
The main suspect, believed to be her husband, is wanted for questioning. Locals reported he had separated from his first wife. Officers at the scene described the killing as “horrible” and likely driven by anger and vengeance.
Authorities have raised concern over the rising number of murder cases in the country, many linked to love triangles, land disputes, and robberies. Police say they are struggling to address and resolve dozens of pending cases.
