Detectives are investigating an incident where a bodaboda rider was found murdered and his body abandoned on the roadside in Muungano area, Athi River, Machakos County.
His motorcycle was missing when
the body was discovered, police said.
Police said the assailants were
targeting his motorcycle, and no recovery has been made so far.
The body was moved to the mortuary
pending autopsy and other procedures, police said.
Police say the August 12
incident is the latest in a series that have been reported so far amid calls on
the riders to always weigh the situation and cooperate with their attackers for
their safety.
Police are pursuing dozens of
such murder and robbery incidents connected to bodaboda in several parts of the
country.
Some of the stolen motorcycles are changed and sold to unsuspecting buyers, police say.
Meanwhile, at least 11 suspects were
arrested in a police operation after they participated in the lynching of a man
over claims of stealing chicken in Mavueni, Kilifi County.
Police said the suspects will
face murder charges over the death of Arafat
Katana, 23, on July 28. He was accused of stealing a duck in the area and beaten to death.
The deceased’s
brother and father were seriously injured in the drama as they tried to rescue him
from the mob.
The injured
reported the matter and said they would identify the attackers, prompting the police
action.
Police said they
are looking for more suspects in connection with the murder.
This was after
a section of locals staged a protest on August 12, demanding action and the arrest
of more suspects still at large.
Cases of mob
lynching have been on the rise amid calls for suspects to be surrendered to
authorities for processing and action.
Police term mob
lynching a crime, with statistics showing up to three cases are reported daily
separately.
Police
authorities say they have rolled out a campaign to discourage the trend in the
country.
