The Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) has established a nine-member Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC) to address emerging conflicts within the party.
The decision was reached during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Chui House, Nairobi.
According to a party statement, the NEC underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability as the party prepares for upcoming by-elections.
“The NEC further resolved to uphold peace, strengthen stability, and focus our full energy on the impending by-elections, fielding strong, credible candidates and rallying the entire party machinery to deliver victories,” the statement read.
The statement also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the rule of law and the supremacy of the party constitution, highlighting these as guiding principles to sustain unity and advance the party’s service to its members and the nation.
The party has in recent weeks faced internal disagreements involving its top leadership.
This followed remarks by DAP-K Secretary General Eseli Simiyu at a recent press conference, where he said the party had received petitions from members relating to leadership changes.
Some petitions called for the removal of the party leader, while others sought changes to the position of deputy party leader.
Following the NEC meeting, Deputy Party Leader George Natembeya said he was confident in the committee’s ability to restore order.
“We want to clean our house as we prepare to take the leadership of this country, and we have agreed we must have internal democracy,” he stated.
Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa expressed a similar view, noting that he would respect the committee’s recommendations.
“If the committee suggests, as per the petitions filed, that there should be leadership changes, we will accept the committee’s report, but the party will not be destroyed,” he said.
