Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has dismissed threats of expulsion from DAP-K, describing them as political intimidation and insisting he remains focused on his leadership goals.
In an interview Friday, Natembeya, who has increasingly been
linked to national ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, questioned the basis
and legality of reported plans by DAP-K’s top leadership to oust him from the
party.
“Who can say that? The NEC? For what reasons?” he posed,
referring to the National Executive Council of the party.
“How do you expel a member from a party? You just wake up and
say you are expelled?”
Natembeya, who was responding to questions about potential
disciplinary action over his perceived political realignments, brushed off the
matter, saying he had no time for what he described as attempts to bully or
intimidate him.
“I have no room for that. Because this is an intimidation,”
he said.
The Governor, a former Regional Commissioner who rose to prominence for his direct leadership style, has recently been at the centre of speculation regarding his future political path.
Although he has yet to officially declare a run for higher
office, questions about his intentions for the presidency in 2027 have
persisted.
Asked whether he is eyeing the presidency, Natembeya responded indirectly, distancing himself from other political figures while emphasising his independent political outlook.
“It’s in DAP where you and Salasya, among the elected members of parliament, want to be president. But we don't know which party you are coming with,” the interviewer asked Natemebya.
In a rejoinder, he said:
“I dont know, Salasya wants to be the President of what, for me, I want to be the President of Kenya."
The growing tension within DAP-K reflects wider shifts in the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as alliances evolve and individual leaders position themselves for influence.
Despite the uncertainty, Natembeya made it clear he would not be easily swayed or silenced.
"We should learn to groom leaders who have the potential to shine in the national space. The Problem with us Kenyans is that when we see a leader with the potential to shine, we start placing hurdles in his way with accusations," he stated.
