President William Ruto on Monday attended the Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Ethiopia.

Ruto also held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

The President reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to transforming food systems to support sustainable development.

The president said that global transformation on how food is produced, processed, distributed, and consumed cannot be overemphasised.

Ruto affirmed Kenya’s commitment to transforming food systems for sustainable development and climate resilience.

He also emphasised the need to provide tailored financial products that are essential to support small-scale farmers, start-ups, and agri-preneurs.

"We must provide tailored financial products that are essential to support small-scale farmers, start-ups, and agri-preneurs and promote innovative digital financial solutions such as M-pesa," he said.

Ruto also talked about the bilateral relations between Kenya and Italy, saying that the partnership between the two has been nurtured through consistent diplomatic engagement, fostering a strong foundation for collaboration in various sectors.

''Our bilateral ties are underpinned by vibrant people-to-people connections, thriving trade and investment initiatives, and close cooperation in peace and security matters,'' he said.

Ruto said that Italy has proven to be a steadfast partner in supporting Kenya’s transformative development agenda, particularly through the expansion of infrastructure at the Konza Technopolis and advancements in Kenya’s space agency initiatives.
