An online video shared by Nyandarua Senator John Methu showing him standing alongside a man who closely resembles him has sparked an online frenzy.

The clip, posted by the senator on his social media platforms, captured a light-hearted moment during what appeared to be a public gathering, where attendees expressed amusement at the striking resemblance between the two.

In the video, Senator Methu, dressed in a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) branded shirt and cap, is seen standing next to the man as the crowd reacts with excitement.

At one point, the senator places a hand on the man’s shoulder while smiling for the video after removing his cap, seemingly inviting the audience to compare the resemblance more closely.

People attending the gathering, some seated and others standing, appeared entertained by the unusual encounter, with laughter and reactions accompanying the interaction.

The senator himself appeared amused by the moment as he addressed those gathered using a microphone before later putting his cap back on.

Sharing the clip online, Methu jokingly captioned it: Hii campaign iko mambo. Today I met Senator Kaba Methu.”

The video quickly drew reactions from social media users, many expressing surprise at the resemblance and turning the moment into light-hearted banter.

Some users joked that the senator had effectively come face-to-face with himself, while others questioned whether the two could actually be related.

One Facebook user, Camill Kamaa, reacted: “Wah.. You look alike.”

Another, Mwangi Kahihu, joked that the encounter appeared as though the senator had met himself.

Meanwhile, user Samuel Maranga said he initially thought the senator was standing next to his own photograph before realising it was another person who looked almost identical.

At first I thought you are standing next to your pic , kumbe ni jamaa photocopy yako???” he posed.

Others suggested the resemblance made the pair appear like different versions of the same person at different stages of life, while some jokingly questioned who among the two was the “real” Senator Methu.

"You met with yourself in your youth,” Ruth KP posted, followed by laughing emojis.

Lagat Missionaari wondered whether the pair could be brothers, reflecting curiosity shared by several users.

Some commenters leaned fully into humour, with one comparing the resemblance to being in the “same WhatsApp group", while another joked that the moment looked like a “buy-one-get-one-free” scenario.

Overall, many of the reactions focused on disbelief, amusement and attempts to explain the unusual resemblance, helping the video gain traction online.

The video has continued circulating online, adding to a growing trend where politicians’ unexpected encounters and light moments outside formal political events attract significant attention and engagement from social media users.

For many viewers, the moment offered a brief break from political discourse, turning an ordinary public appearance into an online talking point.
