Marakwet residents living in landslide prone areas have been asked to move as rains intesify.
Area deputy county commissioner John Otieno said they have begun sensitising residents living in the Kerio escarpment to move to safer areas until the rains subside.
"The first thing we are doing is sensitisation so that residents understand the danger and take steps to move to safer areas. We have organised meetings through our chiefs," he said on Thursday.
He said the disaster management team has mapped out areas where residents can relocate to.
Landslide prone areas in Marakwet East subcounty are Embolot, Embotut, Endo, Kaben and Mumol.
In Marakwet West subcounty, Kapcherop, Chebororwa and Kipsaya are earmarked as prone to landslides.
Other areas singled out in Elgeyo Marakwet county include Kapchemutwa, Anin and Keu regions of Neiyo North subcounty, while in Keiyo South, Kabechei, Epke, Kocholwo and Tureia have been identified.
Further north in Marsabit, two children are feared dead while the bodies of an elderly couple were recovered after a two-day search.
Heavy rains have swept away houses, while in Kwale floods have damaged crops.
Relief food and supplies are being distributed in some flood prone areas.
Education CS Fred Matiang' has assured that the ongoing KCSE exams will not be affected as papers will be in rightful venues in good time.
