Crime scene
A 22-year-old man has been arrested after his 25-year-old girlfriend was found dead inside their rented house in Juja, Kiambu County, following an alleged domestic dispute.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody after his father reported to officers that his son had confessed to assaulting his girlfriend, Quinter Adhiambo, during a disagreement over their relationship.
According to investigators, the suspect told his father that he had struck the woman while the two were arguing inside their single-room rental house near Cyber Verse Complex in the Mastore area of Juja Farm. He later became alarmed when she stopped responding and feared she had died.
Officers who visited the scene found Quinter's body lying on the floor of the house. Although detectives reported that there were no visible external injuries, blood stains found on the floor suggested a struggle had taken place.
Police also recovered a broken, blood-stained piece of glass, which has been retained as an exhibit as investigations continue.
Investigators established that the woman had travelled from Nairobi to visit the suspect before the incident occurred.
The scene was processed by detectives and crime scene investigators from Juja, assisted by officers from Abbasalama Police Post.
The suspect, who was escorted to the police station by his father, remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned on a murder charge.
Quinter's body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as detectives continue with investigations.
In a separate incident, police in Nyeri County have launched investigations after an 82-year-old woman was found dead in a maize plantation near her home in Tetu Sub-County.
Veronica Waruguru Gicheche was discovered lying lifeless about 200 metres from her house early on Tuesday by a family member carrying out routine rounds on the family farm.
Police said the deceased was found with her mouth wrapped in a piece of cloth. Officers recovered a black T-shirt, a panga and a basic mobile phone believed to belong to her from the scene.
Detectives said the body had no visible external injuries. It was moved to the Nyeri PGH Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as investigations continue.
