Bomet Senator Hilary Sigei has bashed Azimio La Umoja One Coalition over their recent actions to hold anti-government rallies.
Speaking on Tuesday, Sigei said that all the actions by the opposition still demonstrate that they are in denial of the August 2022 elections.
“I expected that Azimio should be at the fourth stage of healing after the August 2022 polls. But five months down the line they seem to be in denial,” he said.
“Some things which Azimio are now saying we are wondering which stage they are in as the elections were clear and transparent."
Wading into the Azimio rallies, the Senator claimed that the gatherings are actions by Azimio trying to remain relevant.
“What they are holding is not public consultation but trying to keep themselves relevant and tell the people they are still there. Raila and his team are trying to tell the people that if we sit back we will be forgotten. But unfortunately, Kenyans moved on and decided that they are done with the 2022 elections,” Sigei added.
The Senator explained that Azimio went back to the courts when they were not satisfied with the August 2022 polls.
The Supreme Court confirmed the election of William Ruto as the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.
Chief Justice Martha Koome said Ruto garnered 50 per cent plus one required for one to win the presidency.
According to results announced by former IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes (50.49 per cent), defeating Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga who had 6,942,930 votes, representing (48.85 per cent).
However, despite the Supreme Court ruling the Opposition led by Raila Odinga still rejected the outcome.
“We went back to the courts and a finding was made and we accepted the verdict and a government was set up. I thought Azimio would now be at the denial part where they will be in depression where they say they are almost there but accepting the loss.,” Sigei noted.
From January, Raila has led the Azimio Coalitions in anti-government protests.
So far they have held rallies in Nairobi, Machakos, Kisumu, Busia, Kisii and Kakamega.
Despite the rallies, Ruto said he will remain unshaken and continue serving Kenyans.
