Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has for the second time rescheduled a planned two-day development tour of Bomet that was to start Wednesday.

In a tentative program shared by the county, Gachagua was to preside over the launch of a sweet potato processing plant in Chepalungu and a high-altitude training camp in Bomet East.

A statement released by Governor Hillary Barchok Tuesday stated that the visit will not happen due to "unavoidable urgent matter in the DP's diary".

"Following a joint consultative meeting between Bomet leadership and the Office of the Deputy President, the scheduled development visit that was to take place from July 19 and 20 in Bomet has been postponed," the statement reads.

There have been speculations that DP cancelled the tour due to the planned Azimio protests.

An official at his office has, however, dismissed this as untrue saying this was not in any way connected.

"The meeting has not been postponed today, this was rescheduled last week because of other duties in Nairobi," he told the Star in a phone interview.

The visit was to happen on July 5 before it was canceled after it clashed with a national tea summit in Kericho.

Barchok also used the opportunity to call on residents to disregard calls to take part in the protests.

"The public is urged to go about their daily businesses in building the nation and ignore calls for illegal demonstrations by selfish politicians who are hell bent on reversing the gains made by the Kenya Kwanza government so far," he said.

According to the county chief, the demonstrations have left families "mourning the loss of their loved ones and causing wanton destruction of property of hardworking Kenyans in their wake".
