The tournament will feature 104 matches, reflecting its expanded format.
Teams will be divided into 12 groups of four, with each side playing three group-stage matches. The top teams will advance to the knockout rounds, in a structure designed to increase participation and global representation.
This will be the first time the World Cup is hosted by three countries, marking a major milestone in FIFA’s history. It will also be the first edition to feature 48 teams, up from the traditional 32, significantly broadening qualification opportunities for nations across all continents.
The final will be staged at the MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey area, one of the most iconic sporting venues in the United States.
FIFA says the expanded format is aimed at making the tournament more inclusive while maintaining competitive balance. Fans can expect a longer, more dynamic competition with increased global participation and heightened excitement from the group stage through to the final.
