In the financial year 2024/25, Geothermal energy was by far the largest single source of electricity in Kenya's interconnected energy mix, supplying a dominant 39.51% of the total power.
Hydro power was the second-largest contributor, making up 24.21% of the mix. Together, these two renewable sources—geothermal and hydro—accounted for nearly two-thirds of the country's electricity supply.
Wind power also played a significant role, contributing 13.18%. The total share of renewable energy sources clearly formed the backbone of the national grid.
Imports made up a modest 10.60%, with Solar energy adding 3.27% and Offgrid sources providing 0.61%. The data confirms Kenya's high reliance on its extensive geothermal resources and established hydroelectric capacity to power the nation.
