Energy Generated in Kenya: 2020-2025

Kenya's energy generation saw consistent and substantial growth over the five-year period from 2020 to 2025.

The total electrical energy generated, which includes power delivered to the national grid from various producers and through imports, rose steadily each financial year.

Starting at 11,459.83 Gwh in 2020/21, generation increased to 12,652.74 Gwh in 2021/22 and further climbed to 13,289.75 Gwh in 2022/23.

This upward trend continued, reaching 13,684.36 Gwh in 2023/24, before hitting a peak of 14,472.00 Gwh in the 2024/25 financial year.

The sustained expansion of power generation has been attributed to two key factors: an increase in grid connectivity across the country and a rise in heightened economic activity, both of which drive the demand for electrical energy.
