An analysis of registered deaths in Kenya for individuals aged 15 and above reveals distinct patterns based on marital status and sex.
Among single individuals, males account for a higher proportion of deaths at 62.5% compared to females at 37.5%.
Similar trends are observed for married and divorced categories, with males consistently showing higher percentages.
However, a significant reversal occurs among widowed individuals, where females represent a substantial 76.8% of registered deaths, while males account for only 23.2%.
The data also indicates that in 2024, a total of 4,214 deaths were registered for adolescents aged 15-19 years.
Furthermore, for single persons, the proportion of registered deaths declined significantly with age, from 79.8% for those aged 15-19 to just 3.1% for those aged 80 years or older, as per the Kenya Vital Statistics Report 2024 by KNBS.
