Police have arrested three suspected perpetrators of robbery with violence and recovered a firearm in a coordinated overnight operation targeting a criminal network linked to a recent shooting incident.
The suspects were apprehended on March 24, 2026, at about 1:04 am in the Makutano–Ngomongo area of Kirinyaga County following a joint operation by officers from Ngong Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Mwea–Makutano Police Post.
According to the report, the multi-agency team acted on intelligence that the suspects had gone into hiding in the area. Officers moved in swiftly and arrested the three individuals without incident.
Police believe the suspects are behind a violent robbery reported in Ngong on March 12, 2025, during which a victim was shot and seriously injured.
During the arrest, officers recovered a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. The firearm is expected to play a key role in linking the suspects to the robbery.
Investigators also seized a red motorcycle, believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle during the crime. Detectives say the motorcycle will be subjected to further forensic analysis.
In addition, police recovered clothing suspected to have been worn during the robbery. The items are now part of the evidence being examined as investigations continue.
Authorities described the operation as precise and intelligence-led, noting that it marks a significant step in dismantling organised criminal activity in the region.
The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as detectives expand investigations. Police are working to establish whether the individuals could be linked to other robbery incidents within and beyond the area.
The report noted that the operation “underscores the unwavering commitment of security agencies to protect the public and bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice.”
Law enforcement agencies have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with authorities by sharing information that may assist in ongoing investigations.
The arrest and recovery come amid heightened efforts by security agencies to curb violent crime and improve public safety through intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration.
Investigations remain ongoing.
