Police from Laare Police Station, Meru County, have apprehended six more suspects linked to a horrifying gang-rape incident that occurred on December 1, 2025, in Laare Town within Igembe North Sub-County.

This brings to nine the number of suspects in custody over the rape incident, which was partially recorded on camera.

According to police, on that day a distress call was received from members of the public reporting that a young woman was in grave danger, being gang-raped by a group of men participating in a traditional circumcision procession.

Responding swiftly, officers proceeded to the scene, where they found the victim in a state of utter despair, her clothes torn and her spirit bruised. They escorted her to Nyambene Hospital for medical attention.

Determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, law enforcement officers launched an extensive manhunt.

Utilising forensic leads, they executed targeted raids in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama areas, successfully flushing out the six suspects—Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali—from their hiding places and arresting them.

The six now join three suspects previously arrested on December 1, 2025, all currently in custody and undergoing processing pending arraignment.

As the investigation unfolds, detectives remain focused on identifying and apprehending additional suspects involved in this heinous crime, ensuring that no perpetrator evades justice.

The group was among about 100 men who were part of a traditional circumcision procession when they attacked the woman in Laare Town, police said. The gang attacked the woman and gang-raped her.

In the Syokimau area, police said they were pursuing a gang that also raped a woman, her daughter, and their housegirl during an attack in their house.

The gang stole assorted goods in the Monday morning ordeal, police said. Police added that the victims are in hospital in stable condition and a hunt for the attackers is ongoing.

In Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, police said they are pursuing a gang that raped a woman in a maize plantation. The woman was headed home on a motorcycle on the Moiben–Kapcherop highway when the rider diverted from the main road and entered a different route leading to a maize plantation.

On the farm, there were about ten men, and five of them gang-raped her. The woman told police she managed to leave the place and was assisted by good Samaritans to a hospital. Police said no arrest has been made over the incident.

Elsewhere in Kirinyaga, three suspects were arrested over the murder and gang rape of a woman in the area. The woman died from the ordeal on November 22. Police said they have recorded a surge in rape incidents and are racing to solve them.
