Radio Jambo has emerged as the most listened-to station in Nairobi, commanding the largest share of urban radio audiences, according to the latest Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT) released on November 5, 2025.

The survey shows that Radio Jambo attracts 7.3 per cent of the total 3,175,546 radio listeners, giving it the widest audience reach among urban stations.

However, its influence goes beyond reach — it also commands a 20.2 per cent share of total listening time out of 914,557,330 recorded listening minutes across all stations.

This means that while Radio Jambo reaches 7.3 per cent of listeners, its fans spend more time tuned in compared to other stations, making up about one-fifth of all radio listening time in the city.

The survey further reveals that six in 10 Nairobians tune in to Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi, the station’s flagship breakfast show, which has, over the years, grown into Radio Africa Group’s biggest brand show.

The duo’s mix of humour, audience interaction and real-life relationship stories continues to anchor the station’s dominance in morning listenership.

In their popular signature segment, Patanisho, Gidi and Ghost invite listeners to call in seeking reconciliation with estranged partners, relatives, or friends. The duo then act as mediators, contacting the other party live on air to facilitate a frank conversation.

The feature, often emotional, dramatic and sometimes humorous, blends real-life conflict with empathy and entertainment — a formula that has made it one of the most talked-about segments on Kenyan radio.

Citizen Radio comes second with 5.0 per cent audience reach and 12.1 per cent listening share, followed by Radio 47 (2.2 per cent reach, 8.0 per cent share), Kameme Radio (2.0 per cent reach, 6.7 per cent share), and Classic FM (1.9 per cent reach, 5.7 per cent share).

Other stations with notable audiences include Radio Maisha (1.7 per cent), Ramogi FM (1.4 per cent), Milele FM (1.4 per cent), Inooro FM (1.1 per cent), and Mbaitu FM (1.0 per cent).

Smaller but consistent niche audiences are also recorded for Egesa FM and Biblia Husema, each with a 0.7 per cent audience share.

The tracker shows that 53.7 per cent of listeners are female and 46.3 per cent male, with the bulk of the radio audience (41.3 per cent) aged between 25 and 34 years.

Most listeners fall within the C1 socio-economic group (LSM 8–11) — essentially middle-class urban Kenyans with moderate to high purchasing power — representing 51.4 per cent of the audience, while the study notes that 100 per cent of respondents were from urban settings.

The findings underline Radio Jambo's continued hold on urban audiences despite the growth of digital streaming, reaffirming the station's enduring power to captivate audiences in a fast-changing digital landscape.

The higher share figure reflects listener loyalty and longer engagement times, offering brands a clear guide on where to channel their advertising for wider audience reach in Kenya’s fiercely competitive radio market.
