Excitement swept through Kisumu on Friday as Radio Jambo lit up the city with a colourful roadshow that brought fans face-to-face with their favourite presenters for the first time.

The Radio Jambo delegation included some of the station’s biggest names, Gidi and Ghost, Lion and Mbussi and Masawe Japanni, who took time to meet and greet their fans.

Excited residents flocked to see them, snapping selfies and chanting their names as the convoy passed through the city.

The team painted the streets red and white as locals lined the roads from Kondele to Nyalenda and Dunga Beach, waving, singing, and dancing to popular tunes blasting from the station’s branded trucks.

Khafafa said the visit was long overdue, noting that Kisumu listeners had repeatedly asked when Radio Jambo would tour the lakeside city.

“We are very happy to be in Kisumu. Our audience here has always shown us great love,” he said.

“Even as the city mourns the loss of a great leader, we stand with Kisumu and celebrate its strength and unity.”

The roadshow kicked off with a live broadcast of the Gidi na Ghost Morning Show, which had residents laughing, cheering, and participating in games.

Presenters Gidi Ogidi and Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee thrilled the crowd with their signature humour and easy banter.

“I listen to them every morning. Seeing them in person feels like meeting family,” said Caroline Achieng, a Kisumu resident who joined the crowd at Nyalenda.

Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga, representing Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, welcomed the Radio Jambo team, describing Kisumu as one of Africa’s cleanest and most peaceful cities.

“We are ranked number one in Kenya, number two in East Africa, and number six in Africa in cleanliness. We invite investors and entertainers to experience our hospitality,” he said.

As the roadshow began to move around the lakeside city from Airport, Kondele, Mamboleo, Nyamasaria, Nyalenda and Dunga Beach, the air was filled with music, cheers, and laughter, a lakeside celebration of connection, culture, and community.

“We are honoured to share in Kisumu’s warmth,” Khafafa said.

Locals who thronged the Kisumu Central Squares, where the Radio Jambo caravan was stationed, expressed excitement at meeting some of their favourite presenters.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes seeing Gidi and Ghost right here in Kisumu,” said Joseph Omondi, a boda boda rider from Kondele.

“I listen to them every morning on my way to work. Today feels like meeting old friends.”

Caroline Achieng from Nyalenda said, “Radio Jambo has always been part of our mornings. Hearing their voices live and seeing them dance with us makes me proud to be from Kisumu.”

“This roadshow has brought life back to the city,” said Linet Atieno, a trader at Dunga Beach, adding that they have been grieving, but today Radio Jambo reminded them of how to smile again.
