Deputy Inspector of Police Eliud Lagat has upgraded Kibiko police post in Kajiado West constituency to a full-fledged police station.

Kibiko police station was among the 92 police stations countrywide gazetted last week by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

“In EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 40 (1) of the National Police Service Act, the Inspector-General of the National Police Service, designates the establishments particulars of which are set out in the schedule to be Police Stations for the purpose of the Act,” Kanja said in a gazette notice dated 3rd October 2025.

Lagat announced the move when he made an impromptu visit to Rongai Police Station and Kibiko Police Post in Kajiado County yesterday evening.

The visit, according to the DIG, was part of an ongoing initiative to assess police welfare and evaluate the region's operational readiness.

“I have elevated the police post to a full police station in line with the gazette notice by the IG,” Lagat told the Star, saying more police officers will be posted there following requests from area residents.

The objective of Lagat’s was to engage directly with officers, understand their challenges, and inspect the state of infrastructure and resources at the respective stations.

The station will now be manned by an officer of the rank of Chief Inspector, who will take charge as OCS with about 50 police officers to be deployed. Currently, it's manned by a few officers who have been overwhelmed by the workload due to the rising population in Kibiko.

The number of police officers per station is determined by both the crime level and the general population. Kibiko, though, is on the outskirts of Ngong town, has been policed from Magadi, which is situated about 100 kilometres away.

The elevation now means that residents don’t have to travel to Magadi as the station will be equipped and provided with sufficient staff who including officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

In Rongai, the DIG toured the station, inspecting key sections including the Report Office, Gender and Children’s Office, cells, the Anti-Crime Unit, DCI Offices, Traffic Office, and Police Lines.

During his engagement with officers on duty, Lagat listened to their feedback on welfare and operational matters. He commended them for their high morale, professionalism, and for maintaining the offices and residential areas to a high standard. He assured them that their concerns would be addressed.

Lagat also reiterated the Inspector General’s commitment to improving officers’ welfare and transforming police stations into centres of excellence for public service delivery. He further noted that plans are underway to gazette additional police stations to enhance the efficiency of service provision.

Additionally, the DIG called for urgent attention to security concerns within the Bangladesh area of Rongai, highlighting the need for enhanced surveillance and coordination.

He also urged officers to uphold integrity and work towards restoring public trust, particularly within the Traffic Department, by ensuring traffic management systems operate effectively and transparently.

Accompanying the DIG were the Director of Logistics, Peter Ndung’u, the Director of Operations, Adamson Bungei, the Director of Gender and Child Protection,.Dolly Badia, and Silas Andiema from the Directorate of Personnel, among other senior officers.
