Police are searching for a suspect behind the murder of a 14-year-old boy in a village in Muthara, Tigania, Meru county.

The body of the grade nine pupil at Athambu Primary School was found in their compound after his murder on Thursday evening.

The body had visible head injuries and bruises on the back.

Witnesses said the victim was with another boy and were herding cattle when they were attacked by a man known to them.

The motive of the attack was not immediately established. An angry mob later torched the man’s house after he escaped the scene moments after the news of the death spread.

The body of the boy was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations even as the cops hunt for the suspect behind the murder.

Locals have joined police in the hunt for the suspect behind the murder, police said, even as they appealed to him to surrender for justice and his safety.

Police fear the villagers will lynch him if and when they find him in their absence.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident where the body of one Andrew Nganga, 55, was found in his house in Naivasha, Nakuru county.

The body had no visible injuries when it was discovered, police said. Police picked up the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, a speeding commuter train killed a man in Kapa area along the Syokimau-Mlolongo railway line.

The man was killed as he crossed the railway line while the train was approaching on Thursday, police said.

The man was hit and badly injured in the head before the body landed about two meters away from the railway line.

The police arrived at the scene and picked up the body to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Kenya Railways has been running a campaign to discourage unsafe crossing of the railway line following an increase in such fatal accidents.
