Litein Boys secondary school in Kericho has been shut down indefinitely after students went on rampage last night protesting over allegations of bad food and other welfare issues.

The students attacked the school watchman with stones forcing him to flee into darkness.

Kericho County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Ethaiba Mwenda confirmed the incident and said the school had been shut down due to the unrest.

“The students destroyed four classrooms and other properties including a fence during the riots,” said Mwenda

He said the incident happened at 9 Pm last night and Mwenda said police were called in to stop the students from further destruction.

“They students were complaining about bad some welfare issues at the school,” she aid

Mwenda said they suspect the students may have been incited and police were investigating to find those involved.

“Once we establish those involved we will take them to court”, he said.

Mwenda said there were no injuries and that the damage caused was estimated at over Sh200,000.

He said the DCI team in Bureti sub-county was handling the matter and the watchman who escaped was being sought.
