Road to August 10: Key election timelines/HILLARY BETT

Kenya is entering a critical electoral period ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) outlining a series of key milestones for political parties, candidates and public officers.

The roadmap begins on February 9, 2027, the deadline for public officers intending to contest elective positions to resign from their posts.

Political parties will then be required to submit membership lists to the IEBC and provide details of their primaries by March 16.

May 9 has been set as the deadline for party primaries and the resolution of nomination disputes.

Independent candidates must also have formally exited political parties and submitted their names and symbols by that date.

The IEBC nomination period for all candidates will run from May 29 to June 11, while disputes arising from nominations must be filed by June 12.

Official campaigns will begin on May 29 and conclude on August 7, 48 hours before Kenyans head to the polls on August 10, 2027.

The timeline is expected to guide preparations for a smooth electoral process.
