Kakamega High School will host the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two Games, the Ministry of Education has announced.
In a circular, Education Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, confirmed that the event initially scheduled for Nakuru High School will now take place in Kakamega from July 29 to August 2.
The Term Two games will feature football, volleyball, rugby Sevens (boys and girls), badminton, table tennis, and basketball 3x3.
Cwhile Musingu High School will stage the Junior Schools ball games and Primary Schools ball games.
The Junior Schools games will feature football, volleyball, netball, handball and basketball 3x3, while primary games, U12 students will compete in football, volleyball, netball and handball. The Special Primary Schools ball games will be held at St Anne’s Girls' Mumias from July 29 to August 2.
Bitok also announced that Kakamega will host the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) from August 14 to 22.
During the regional showpiece, Kenya will be seeking to reclaim the overall title. The last time Kenya won the overall title was in the year 2015 in Huye, Rwanda, with Uganda dominating the last nine editions. Kenya has already selected some teams for the regional championships and will field four teams in each category.
The teams include Laiser Hill Academy, Dr Aggrey, Dagoretti High, Lukenya School (boys’ basketball), Butere Girls, Kaya Tiwi, St Joseph’s Kitale, Olympic (girls’ basketball), Vihiga Boys, Kisii School, All Saints Embu, Upper Hill School (boys’ rugby 15s), St Luke’s Kimilili, Kamito Boys, Highway Secondary, and Manyatta High School (boys’ handball).
Others are Moi Girls Kamusinga, St Joseph’s Girls Kitale, Dagoretti Mixed, Kadika Girls (girls’ handball), Musingu School, St Anthony’s Kitale, St Charles Lwanga, and MPesa Academy (boys’ hockey), Tigoi Girls, St Joseph’s Girls Kitale, Ng’iya Girls, and Mwiki Girls (girls’ hockey). The rest of the teams will be selected during the Term Two games.
