The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has loan opened the
application window for students at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC),
offering financial support to cover tuition and related costs.
The move follows a partnership between HELB and KMTC aimed
at easing the financial burden on students pursuing certificate and diploma
courses at the institution.
In a statement, HELB said the application process is open to
both new and continuing students.
How to apply
To apply, new students are required to visit the HELB
website at www.hef.co.ke.
Once there, they are expected to create an account using
their national ID number, a valid email address, and a personal mobile number
registered under their name.
After registering,
they must verify their account through an activation link sent to their email.
Once logged in, students should complete their profile by
filling in personal details such as residence, education background, and
parental information.
They are also required to upload necessary documents to
support their application.
After completing the profile, students should go to the loan
application section, select the KMTC student financing scheme, and consent to
the loan terms and conditions.
They will also be
asked to provide details of guarantors before submitting the application form.
For continuing students who have received HELB funding
before, the process is slightly different. They are required to download the HELB
mobile app from the Google Play Store or dial *642# on their phones.
They must register using their mobile number to receive a
one-time password for login.
It is important to note that the mobile number must be
registered under the student’s name. Without this, the application process
cannot proceed.
Once logged in, students can update the required information
and submit their application for continued funding.
This development comes after the government allocated Sh58.5
billion to support higher education through HELB and university scholarships,
as part of efforts to promote access to learning and reduce dropout rates due
to financial constraints.
HELB has urged all eligible KMTC students to take advantage
of the open window and apply for funding on time.
