Police in Eldoret are investigating the killing of a young woman whose body was found near St Mary’s Primary School, a short distance from the county social hall in West area.

The deceased has been identified by residents as a popular local girl known for hawking coffee in parts of the city.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the body was found dumped along a road with injuries suspected to have been inflicted using a blunt object.

“The body was found by security guards in the area and we are investigating the incident to establish what happened,” Mwanthi said.

The victime was aged around 25 years.

Mwanthi said it appeared she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the location where it was found.

The body had a gasping injury that was oozing blood around the mouth area.

Residents said she lived with a friend in the neighbouring Shauri estate from where she operated her coffee selling bussiness.

Some residents reported to have seen her last Tuesday evening.

They said that the area where her body was found did not have lights at night, making it risky.

“We ask our security teams to do something about this area concerning security lights and night patrols so as to stop it being inhabited by criminals,” a resident urged.

The body was moved to the Moi Referral Hospital morgue.

Mwanthi said DCI officers had already visited the area and collected evidence to aid with investigations.

He said security had been beefed up in all parts of the city and crime rates had gone down in the recent past.

”We also urge residents to continue working with us in identifying criminals and reporting crime incidents so that we make our city safer,” the county police boss said.

He warned those engaging in criminal incidents to surrender before they are caught by security agencies in the region.
