The Public Service Commission has issued a warning to Kenyans regarding the circulation of fake job advertisements on WhatsApp.

In a statement on X,  the Commission cautioned the public against falling victim to fraudsters posing as PSC officials who demand bribes for non-existent jobs and promotions.

"Beware of fake jobs circulating online, especially on WhatsApp," PSC said in a statement on May 3.

"Kindly note that these are fraudsters posing as PSC staff demanding bribes for nonexistent jobs and promotions."

The Commission said PSC recruitment is free, transparent, and merit-based.

PSC stated that all legitimate job opportunities are posted on the official website and verified social media platforms.

"Verify all job postings on publicservice.go.ke or official Commission Social media platforms. Report scams to [email protected] or law enforcement. Stay vigilant," the statement added.

In February this year, PSC warned the public of fraudulent individuals posing as officials from the commission and extorting money from unwitting Kenyans.

"Caution: Beware of fraudsters posing as PSC staff and soliciting money in exchange for our services. PSC does not charge to offer service,i.e. shortlisting, job opportunities, promotions or appeals," part of the statement.

"The commission provides services free of charge."

PSC urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the commission through their official channel.

"Report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities or the commission immediately. To verify any information, contact PSC via the Call Centre: 020 486 5000. Email: [email protected]," read the statement.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is a constitutional body responsible for managing human resources within the public service. Its primary functions include establishing and abolishing public service offices, appointing individuals to those positions, and exercising disciplinary control.

Additionally, the PSC promotes values and principles within the public service, investigates its practices, and ensures its efficiency.
