Several institutions have complied with the Ministry of Education's directive to close down schools due to demonstrations on Wednesday.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Education CS Ezekiel Machogu ordered all schools in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa to be closed down.
The two CSs said they had received credible intelligence indicating that school-going children in the three cities were at risk.
A spot check by the Star showed closed gates in several schools such as Moi Avenue Primary School in Nairobi.
Students averted the schools with only empty desks to be seen.
The protests called by Azimio La Umoja leaders are set to take place from Wednesday to Friday.
Learners will miss up to 20 hours of lessons due to demonstrations.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu should be closed until further communication is issued.
