Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said that President William Ruto developing Nyanza does not mean a handshake with the opposition.
In a statement on Saturday, Cherargei said that the opposition shall continue playing their role of oversighting the government.
"Ruto shall not leave any part of Kenya in terms of unity and development regardless of their political affiliations/voting. This does not anyway mean a handshake but the opposition shall continue playing their rightful place. Maturity in democracy!" he said.
His sentiments come even as President William Ruto is on a State visit in Luo Nyanza.
Ruto has initiated some development projects which are aimed at opening up the region economically and improving the living standards of the residents.
He said his administration will undertake the development in the region and other parts of Kenya as well regardless of how they voted in the last elections.
Nyanza region is the home turf of Azimio leader Raila Odinga. Residents have been overwhelmingly voting for him the many times he has vied for the presidency.
Ruto who competed with Raila in the last elections recalled that he got minimal votes from Nyanza and especially Homa Bay where he said he got only one per cent of votes.
In the company of his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto got a warm reception from residents and leaders in the region.
Ruto landed in Homa Bay on Friday for the start of his two-day tour of the Nyanza region.
He was received by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Governor Gladys Wanga among other Azimio leaders from the region.
On Saturday, Ruto arrived in Bondo, Siaya County on his second-day visit.
He presided over the launch of the Blue Economy research hub at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of science and technology in Siaya.
He was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto was welcomed by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga who is also the brother to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
