Authorities are investigating a murder in which the body of a three-year-old boy was found in a manhole long after he had gone missing.
The remains were found in the manhole in Kangemi by residents who complained of a foul smell emanating from their sewer line.
Police say the tenants removed the manhole cover and found the body of the boy in a sack with a leg protruding.
The sack was labelled “Nyabuto” when the body was found on the evening of Thursday, October 27.
Police say they are yet to establish the identity of the boy, the motive and those who committed the murder.
Dagoretti police boss Francis Wahome said an autopsy will be carried out.
Elsewhere at the Dandora dumpsite, Nairobi police said they are investigating a murder following a fight between two groups over day’s collection.
Police said Peter Mutua was stabbed by two suspects following an argument on how to share their income after a long day work at the dumpsite.
The victim was rushed to MSF Mathare hospital where he was treated and referred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
The body had multiple injuries to the head, chest and back, It was moved to the city for a postmortem.
A known suspect is being sought.
Meanwhile, a woman was shot and seriously injured in a robbery in Umoja area, Nairobi.
Police said Regina Chege was shot in the right foot in a robbery after she had closed her M-pesa shop and was on her way home.
Three armed men confronted her and demanded cash from her, prompting a confrontation. She resisted and they shot her in the foot.
The gang grabbed her handbag and rode off on a motorbike.
Police said one of the gunmen dropped his mobile phone as they escaped and that it is being analysed as part of efforts to get them.
Two spent 9mm cartridges were recovered.
The victim was rushed to Mama Lucy hospital where she was admitted in fair condition.
The attack comes as morei undercover detectives are being deployed to destabilise criminal gangs that have regrouped after the general election.
Violent crimes have increased in parts of the city as gangs attack for valuables and cash.
