Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims that he disrespected his longtime friend and newly appointed Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku during a public event in Embu County.

In a statement responding to a widely circulated video clip, Kindiki described the allegations as “desperate, mischievous, and utterly malicious.”

He clarified that his comments were not directed at CS Ruku but at former leaders who, while serving in government, acted contrary to the principle of collective responsibility.

“Falsehood is cheap,” the DP stated.

“My remark being discussed referred to a former Cabinet Secretary from the same area and other ex-leaders who manifested similar conduct, to affirm that governments worldwide operate on the principle of collective responsibility.”

According to the DP, anyone in government is expected to align with its policies and use their position to advocate for service delivery, not to criticise the very administration they serve.

“Pretending to be ‘clever’ by undermining a government that you are a senior part of is illegal and anti-people,” he added.

Kindiki’s comments stem from an event in which he is heard addressing the newly appointed CS, warning him against complaining.

The consultative meeting is said to have happened at Siakago in Mbeere North, Embu County.

Ruku, who was also in attendance, had allegedly requested a road project to be done, prompting DP to respond when he took the stand.

He told him that he was in government and could push for the completion of the said project, reminding him that he was not a member of parliament anymore.

“Sasa wewe sio mbunge tena, wewe ni waziri. Hio mambo umeniambia tunaenda kusukuma na wewe. Wewe sio mbunge wakusema oh serikali, serikali ni wewe. We sit in the cabinet, which is the highest decision-making body of the country na chairman ni rais na mtu wake wa mkono ni mimi,” Kindiki stated.

“So you cannot be a minister na badala ya kusaidia wananchi kuelewa maneno ya serikali imefika wapi na ile imekwama usaidie wananchi hio kitu ipatikane, unakuja hapa kulia, kuchochea na kulalamika, it is not possible,” the DP insisted.

Despite the sharp tone, Kindiki reiterated that his relationship with Ruku remains intact and that his intention was to underline the responsibilities that come with holding a Cabinet position. caption caption
