A man accused of attacking a woman for allegedly killing his chicken has been jailed by a Kibera court.
Patrick Lwoyero Kaiga was convicted on Monday by Kibera senior principal magistrate Esther Boke after the prosecution proved their case.
Kaiga denied the charges and was ordered to pay a fine of Sh15,000 or serve a three month jail term.
At first he had stated he couldn't raise the funds.
"I only have 12,000 on my phone, I request the court to reduce the fines to the amount I have." he told the court.
But his appeal for the court to reduce the amount was declined.
According to the charge sheet, the accused person is said to have beaten up Mary Zainabu Yabwetsa on April 29, 2018, in Kibera Sub-county within Nairobi county.
The prosecution called four witnesses to testify, among them Yabwesta.
Yabwetsa, 62 ,told the court that the incident happened while she was in her house.
She said the accused came while she was serving a customer and asked why she had killed his chicken.
"I asked him who told him this rumour and he attacked me," she testified in court.
She told the court that the accused person also insulted her.
She later reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the accused person.
In her ruling, Boke said that there was sufficient evidence that linked the suspect to the crime.
She gave the accused 14 days to appeal the case.
