Police have arrested a suspect after intercepting 350 kilogrammes of bhang valued at about Sh7 million along the Sotik–Kaplong highway.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers on routine patrol flagged down a vehicle for inspection when the driver suddenly abandoned it and fled on foot, raising suspicions.

A quick search of the vehicle led to the discovery of seven sacks of bhang. Both the narcotics and the vehicle were taken to Sotik Police Station for further processing and as evidence.

Investigators then launched a manhunt and, through forensic leads, traced the suspect to his hideout in Kibra, Nairobi, where he was arrested. He has since been transferred to Sotik Police Station, where he remains in custody awaiting arraignment.

The NPS said the arrest underlined its determination to curb drug trafficking and urged the public to support the fight by providing information.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to combating the trade in narcotic drugs and call on the public to continue supporting our operations by providing information,” the service said.
