Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has urged voters in Malava Constituency to focus on development-oriented leadership as campaigns for the parliamentary seat intensify.

Speaking at Mang’uliro on Tuesday while campaigning for UDA candidate David Ndakwa, Savula said leaders seeking the seat should communicate their development agenda to residents.

He challenged the opposition, led by DAP-K aspirant Seth Panyako, to outline clear plans for improving people’s lives instead of focusing on slogans.

“You hear them saying ‘one term’ from morning to evening. What the people of Malava want to hear is how things will be done differently to address their needs,” Savula said.

He added that those supporting Ndakwa were presenting tangible plans around key sectors such as roads, health, water, education and agriculture.

Savula, who also serves as DAP-K’s second deputy party leader, declared his backing for Ndakwa on Monday.

He called on voters to make informed decisions and avoid being swayed by misinformation.

“The people of Malava have always been part of the government since independence, starting from Masinde Welangai to the late Malulu Injendi. This by-election is no different,” he said.

Ndakwa, on his part, expressed commitment to work with all stakeholders to advance development in the constituency if elected.

He said his vision focuses on improving healthcare, education, water supply, infrastructure and agriculture to uplift livelihoods.

“No one enters a political race intending to be in the opposition. People find themselves there by default, because everyone aspires to be part of the government of the day,” Ndakwa said.

The Malava parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of then Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi, who was serving his third term.

Eight candidates are in the race to succeed him in the by-election scheduled for November 27.

Those cleared to contest include Edgar Busiega (DCP), James Angatia (ARC), George Ngaira (PDU), Benjamin Nalwa (Nopeu), Joab Manyasi (DNA), Jason Shivakali (EPP), Seth Panyako (DAP-K), and David Ndakwa (UDA).
