TransNozia Governor George Natembeya has paid tribute to Kenya's eighth Vice President Kijana Wamalwa as Kenya marks 20 years since he died.
On Wednesday, the governor penned down a heartfelt tribute remembering Kijana Wamalwa, who hailed from his county.
"As we reflect on this significant day, I cannot help but recall the invaluable counsel, astute leadership, and unwavering dedication he brought to our nation during his time," Natembeya said.
The governor acknowledged that Wamalwa paid a pivotal role in advancing the cause of multiparty democracy in Kenya and it stands as a testament to his enduring legacy.
He said Wamalwa's vision and commitment to a more inclusive political landscape have left an indelible mark on the nation's history.
To honour his memory, Governor Natembeya announced that he will be renaming Trans Nzoia County Teaching and Referral Hospital to the Michael Wamalwa Memorial Hospital.
"This hospital, now bearing his name, will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy and a beacon of hope for the people of this region," he said.
"May the Michael Wamalwa Memorial Hospital continue to heal, serve, and uplift our community, just as our beloved hero did during his lifetime."
Wamalwa was the brother of DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
He passed on at the Royal Free Hospital in London after battling kidney disease in 2003.
Wamalwa's family will be holding a memorial service to commemorate the 20 years at the former VP's Milimani residence in Kitale.
