Homa Bay residents should remain peaceful during and after Supreme Court gives its verdict on presidential petition, some clergies and youth groups have asked.

The two groups want politicians and their supporters to avoid any bahaviour that may lead to uneasiness after verdict of the Supreme Court on presidential elections petition.

The clergy are; Seventh Day clergymen Washington Okello (Kouyo Kochia SDA in Homa Bay County) Kennedy Midiang’a (Sori SDA church in Migori County) said there is need for people to accept the outcome.

Okello said both Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto had said they will accept the outcome hence their supporters should follow suit.

The clergymen said every Kenyan should be in frontline to promote peace.

“Let’s not react in a way that can breach peace after the Supreme Court gives out its verdict. The competing politicians had said they will accept the outcome hence we should promote peace as well,” Okello said.

They asked religious leaders in Kenya not to take sides in politics saying they are the source of hope should some people feel aggrieved with the verdict.

Midiang’a argued that Kenyans should have interest of the country at heart instead of causing chaos due to outcome from the supreme court.

“Let’s focus on developing the country. A country can be develop by standing on the truth and avoid taking sides,” Midiang’a said.

Elder Samson Opande of Rabuor SDA church in Kendu Bay said residents will continue living together even after the court verdict, adding that nobody should breach peace.

 “Let our local politicians take lead by doing everything that can enhance peaceful co-existence. Remember we’re one family as Kenyans,” Opande said.

Homa Bay Devolution and Climate Change Adaptation programme through Elector Opar and Jude Wasonga encouraged youths in Homa Bay to be peaceful regardless of the political situation.

“This is an opportunity for us youths to maintain peace and welcome whatever the outcome to avoid chaos,”Opar said.
