Cheruiyot, Kiprop and Jepkoech on mission to Lima

Secondary school trio of Aloshas Cheruiyot, Aron Kiprop and Naomi Jepkoech are targeting slots in Team Kenya to the World Under 20 Athletics Championships in Lima, Peru, in August.

Cheruiyot is the East Africa secondary schools' javelin bronze medallist, Kiprop is the national 400m hurdles silver medallist and Jepkoech holds the 100m silver medal.

Cheruiyot, the 2023 national javelin champion said: “I want to fly the Kenyan flag in Peru and that is why I am training hard."

However, the 16-year-old Form Two student at Tulwet Boys will not defend his regional title in Uganda in July/August.

“I won the Uasin Gishu county title but my right hand was paralyzed and I could not travel to defend my Rift Valley title in Kapsabet,” said Cheruiyot.

He enjoys a personal best of 62.58m in javelin and 13.6m in shot put.

He looks up to 2016 Rio Olympics and 2015 world champion Julius Yego.

“I was motivated by Julius Yego after meeting in Eldoret,” he said.

19-year-old Kiprop, a Form Four student at Kamoret Secondary, said: “I want to try my best to make the team to Lima.”
