Woodcreek girls, Crawford boys dominate Kiambu developmental swimming gala

Woodcreek School girls’ swimming team amassed 1,599.50 points to emerge winners in the just concluded developmental swimming gala held at ACK Memorial School

Woodcreek School’s girls’ swimming team emerged overall champions at the Kiambu County developmental swimming gala held at ACK Memorial School in Thika on Sunday after amassing 1,599.50 points.

Crawford International School finished second with 1,495.50 points, while Swimming Talents Club secured third place with 678 points.

In the boys’ category, Crawford International School topped the standings with 2,040 points. Still I Rise International School finished second with 833 points, while Thika Road Academy claimed third position.

The event attracted 11 teams and more than 200 participants, highlighting the growing interest in grassroots swimming development in the county. In the girls’ 25-metre noodle race, Angel May of ACK Memorial School claimed victory in 45.78 seconds.

Scarlet Nduta Kuria of Woodcreek School finished second in 47.16 seconds, while Zyria Wanjiru, also from ACK Memorial School, took third place in 48.06 seconds.

The boys’ Under-7 noodle event was won by Charles Tejani of Aqua Architects Swim Club, who clocked 42.81 seconds. Eddie Gachoki of Thika Road Academy secured silver in 44.82 seconds, while Ethan Mbuthia, also from Thika Road Academy, earned bronze after posting 49.00 seconds.

ACK Memorial School’s Charlton Kaberu won the individual trophy in the Under-10 age category. Kaberu said he is targeting an improved personal best in the 50m freestyle as he seeks qualification for the Kenya Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships scheduled for August 22-23 at St Christopher’s School in Nanyuki.

The Kiambu County Aquatics Association will conclude its 2025/26 season with the Minnows Meet set for June 13 at Potterhouse Junior School in Runda. The competition is reserved for swimmers aged nine years and below.

Meanwhile, Gliding Dolphins Swimmers were crowned champions at the Madaraka Swimming Championship held at Nyali School in Malindi.

Malindi Little Angels finished second as six teams from the Coast region battled for honours in a competition marked by strong performances and impressive sportsmanship. Hosts Nyali School and Malindi Little Angels provided stiff competition to the eventual champions throughout the event.
