National Sevens Circuit leaders, KCB, target the finals of the remaining three legs of the series in their quest to reclaim the overall title.

The bankers are fresh from winning the Christie Sevens to stand top of the table with 63 points, five better than the second-placed Strathmore Leos.

KCB head coach Dennis Mwanja said the job is not done yet and wants his charges to stay focused.

“There will be more twists and turns. We need to keep our eyes on the ball, keep on improving, tweaking and innovating our attack and defence,” observed Mwanja.

Mwanja said the players are determined to reclaim the title they surrendered to Quins last season. They target the 15s title too after walking home empty-handed for the past four seasons.

“It’s been a tough season, but the boys have shown mental fortitude and character to bounce back with commanding displays and put us in a strong position,” added Mwanja.

The Lionesses coach lauded new signings George “Japolo” Ooro, Stephen Osumba and Branton Lusisa, who have complemented the likes of Vincent Onyala, Festus Shiasi and Samuel Asati in delivering the results.

“The new signings hit the ground running, gelling well with their teammates and putting in good performances. I want them to maintain that intensity and good form,” he Mwanja.

The bankers have shifted focus to this weekend’s Embu Sevens, where they are in Pool ‘A’ alongside Daystar Falcons, Mwamba RFC and hosts Embu RFC.

“It’s a tricky pool. Sevens (rugby) is unpredictable... You have to earn your place in the main cup quarterfinals. We are not going to take anything for granted,” noted Mwanja

Pool ‘B’ features Leos, Impala, Kabras and Kabete Stallions.

Menengai Oilers headline Pool ‘C’ alongside Nondies, Nakuru and Mean Machine. Quins lead the charge in Pool ‘D’ and face Catholic Monks, MMUST and Zetech Oaks. After Embu, the series will head to Kabeberi (September 6-7) and conclude at Dala (September 13-14).

Meanwhile, the Embu Sevens have received a Sh3m boost from Kenya Breweries. Hosts, Embu Rugby Football Club, will receive Sh1.5m in cash to support logistical operations. The remainder will be utilised to enhance fan experience and entertainment, including the Tusker ‘village’ and after party.
