Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia FC are hunting for a new coaching staff after sending the entire technical bench packing on Wednesday.

After a trophyless season, the record Kenyan champions cracked the whip, ending weeks of excruciating speculation about the future of head coach Zedekiah Otieno and his assistants.

Zico’s departure, alongside his assistant Michael Nam and goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch, marks a significant shift in the club’s operational dynamics.

The club also parted ways with chief executive officer Ray Oruo.

Secretary General Nick Arum articulated the rationale behind this decision, emphasising the failure by the coaching staff to meet performance expectations despite having adequate time to implement their vision.

“We are definitely in the market for a new coach to steer the club forward in the coming season. The fired coaches were given adequate time to fulfil their roles but failed to deliver,” Arum said.

“The door is open and we are already searching the market for the most suitable replacement, most likely a foreign coach.”

The club’s recent struggles culminated in a disheartening 2-1 loss to Nairobi United in the final of the domestic Mozzart Cup, a defeat that left fans and stakeholders disillusioned.

Surrendering the Kenyan Premier League title to Kenya Police, finishing second, added to the mounting pressure on the coaches.

Chairman Ambrose Rachier said: “Gor Mahia Football Club wishes to inform its supporters. stakeholders, and the general public that it has mutually agreed with the entire technical bench, including members of the team security, to part ways, effective July 2, 2025.”

“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 season.”

“The separation has been reached amicably and in good faith, with the club recognising and appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff. We extend our sincere gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism and service to the club during their tenure,” he added.

Rachier assured the Green Army that every effort would be made to restore the team to its heyday.

“As we begin a new chapter, Gor Mahia FC remains committed to building a solid foundation that will support competitive excellence both on and off the pitch. Further announcements regarding the new technical setup will be made in due course,” he added.

Zico received the blessings to guide the club after Croat Sinisa Mihic left in a huff, following endless wrangles between him and the rest of the technical bench.
