Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has addressed key political and personal issues in an interview on Citizen TV, aired July 1, 2025.
He distanced himself from claims that he's ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta’s project, stating he’s still consulting on his 2027 presidential ticket.
Matiang’i emphasised that while he discusses national matters with Uhuru, he hasn't committed to any political party and has been linked with multiple opposition groups.
He denied involvement in the Yala killings and described the 2023 raid on his Karen home as traumatic.
Additionally, he revealed plans to leave his role at the World Bank and declined to discuss his net worth, stating it’s not for public consumption.
In May, Matiang’i publicly announced his intention to run for president in 2027, setting the stage for a potentially dramatic entry into Kenya’s political arena.
