State House former director of brand strategy and events Thomas Kwaka, alias Big Ted, started his new assignment yesterday.

Ted was among 24 new envoys appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in April.

Ted took to Instagram to thank his former boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, recounting his time working with the President for the past 11 years.

"Like a father to a son, you set me out to my next challenge to be amongst the Kenyans who have chosen to serve and make history," he wrote.

"For 11 years, you have given me a chance to serve, to lead, to learn to make mistakes and to grow."

He was deployed to Los Angeles in the US as Kenya’s Consul-General.

The appointments are contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Your Excellency, many will attribute this opportunity to being your friend, but they have not seen the blood and pain of being in the trenches, or the many misses at the mark that you saw and still encouraged me on," he wrote.

Big Ted promised to make Kenya proud after arriving in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

"I am here to serve and serve is what I shall do to the many who are naysayers — if you are going where I am going — you would be hungry, too. I shall serve and make you and Kenya proud."
