The LGBTQ topic has been trending on social media following the Supreme Court ruling allowing the group to register an association. The ruling has not pleased many Kenyans who say LGBTQ is against nature, the law of marriage and the obligation of man.
A number of African leaders are against this western culture. President William Ruto and Uganda's Yoweri Museveni are some of the leaders who have come out with their stand that LGBTQ is wrong and should not be accepted in society.
A number of politicians and celebrities have also shared their views concerning this matter, with many saying LGBTQ will be a bad influence on children and that biblically it is written a man should marry a woman.
Museveni is said to have proposed locking LGBTQ lovers in a house for a certain period of time for them to procreate and if they don't they will be jailed. Many leaders say they will not go against African morals because of a concept introduced to them by the west, saying not everything introduced to us is acceptable in society.
But society should understand that despising, rejecting and humiliating the LGBTQ community is not the right way to handle them. Some of these people are just influenced by their peers and with proper guidance and counselling, I believe most of them will get to know their true selves and identity.
Rejecting them only worsens the situation and people handle situations differently; some might end up committing suicide while others will try to fit in with people like them and isolate themselves from the real world.
People are allowed to make their own personal life decisions.
