In Summary
Police in Narok South have arrested a man suspected of brutally killing his friend and dismembering his body in Chemamul village, Ololunga.
The incident is believed to have occurred on Saturday.
By Sunday evening, only the lower half of the victim’s body had been recovered.
The remains, which were positively identified by family members, were found dumped in a nylon sack approximately 200 metres from the suspect’s house.
According to the deceased’s mother, Lily Mutai, her 27-year-old son, Philemon Kirui Mutai, went missing on Thursday last week.
Concerned about his whereabouts, the family visited the home of his close friend.
There, they reportedly noticed blood stains on the door frame, window, and walls, raising immediate suspicion.
The family apprehended the suspect and, during a search, recovered a blood-stained panga and a wooden stick believed to have been used in the attack.
The suspect was handed over to officers at Nkoben Police Post.
Detectives from the Narok South Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later visited the scene and thoroughly searched the area.
“A lower part of the body was discovered about 200 metres from the suspect’s house, stashed in a nylon sack. The upper part of the body is still missing,” a police report read.
Police say the motive for the killing remains unclear.
The deceased and the suspect were known to be close friends and had reportedly been living together in the same village.
The recovered body part was taken to Narok County Referral Hospital morgue, where it awaits autopsy as investigations continue.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the missing upper part of the body to aid in the ongoing probe.
